Metal Gear Solid on PSX.

Part of my childhood, great game, Shadow Moses, Solid Snake, outstanding history. I have to say something else? ;)

I'm so tempted to agree, I truly love MGS and have played it from the first time it came out. If we're talking about the most epic game though, i'm going with Final Fantasy X. Even today I still play it and enjoy it just as much as I did the first time. I think I fell in love with that game, even more so than the other Final Fantasy games.

Well, if you mean "epic" as in grand in scale, a great adventure then these games my picks.

As mentioned earlier by OP:

The Elder Scrolls series

1994 - current | Bethesda Game Studios

Elder_Scrolls_Arena_Cover.jpg

I don't need to explain what this is, you already know it. In short, a fantasy-based action-RPG which lets you live another life in a completely open world known as Tamriel.

Unreal

1997 | (ironically enough) Epic Mega Games (now Epic Games, or just Epic)

Unreal_Coverart.png

One of my favourite FPSs of all time. Extremely underrated. It follows a prisoner who escapes a transporting prison spaceship, which has crash landed on an alien planet known as Na Pali. As you simply want to make your way home again, you find that your path there is a dark, dangerous and... epic one. The planet of Na Pali and it's natives, the Nali have been invaded and ruled over by the technologically advanced race of reptilian creatures known as the Scaarj.

This is one the largest shooters I know of, which has you fighting gigantic bosses and playtime that would last you easily up to 15-20 hours.

Brütal Legend

2009 | Double Fine

256px-BrutalLegendCover.jpg

A game for beer-drinkers and hell-raisers alike. A definite pick up if you're a fan of hack-n-slash games with a bit more to them and if you're a Metal-Head, such as myself. \m/ (o.o) \m/

It follows the best roadie in the Metal business, Eddie Riggs, voiced by Jack Black. As he is killed in the normal human realm by a stage prop falling on him, a drop of his blood flows into his skull-shaped belt buckle, which - for reasons which become clear later - awakes a gigantic fire-breathing, chromed creature which sends Eddie into another realm where everything about Heavy Metal is more than just a music genre, here it's the landscape, weapons, vehicles, clothing, animals, everything. He learns that innocent head-bangers are being oppressed by Hair-Metal overlords. He creates a faction to rebel against them called Ironheade.

It's a mix between an open-world hack-n-slash and a strategy game with plenty of upgrades to weapons, your car, clothes, fighting moves and so on. It's a fairly long story, with many different landscapes with their own awesome, distinctive look and style.
